The Australian Sea Lion (Neophoca cinerea) is an endangered sea lion species found along southern Australia's coastlines and is an integral part of Aboriginal folklore in the region. In Aboriginal culture, the sea lion is associated with creating coastlines and islands. As represented in this artwork, the sea lion's playful and curious nature is seen as a symbol of joy and wonder.
This beautiful creature’s ability to navigate both land and sea is seen as a symbol of adaptability and resilience. In some Aboriginal stories, the Australian Sea Lion is associated with the Dreamtime and is said to have helped to create the paths and tracks that crisscross the land.
Dharshi wishes that this series of artworks and the associated meaning as well as spiritual symbolism serve as a reminder to the collector to treasure every moment and enjoy the beauty of nature every day as it is transient and every journey must come to an end!
