The Matted Flax Lily (Dianella caerulea) is an endangered species of flax lily found in eastern Australia, and is an important part of Aboriginal folklore in the region. The flax lily is associated with the creation of the stars and the night sky and the flax lily's strong and flexible fibers are seen as a symbol of strength and resilience. The flax lily's blue flowers are said to represent the blue sky and the infinite possibilities of the Dreamtime.
